The start of November definitely signifies a change in weather & most of us start to feel winter kicking in. Although the winter season doesn’t officially start in December, I think most of us would agree that November is when we really start to feel the cold.

In the most part, preparing your home for viewings is the same no matter the time of year but there are some extra steps you can take to ensure your home is showcased in the best possible way, even when the weather is against you.

Of course, we have current restrictions and long-term social distancing guidelines to take into account too. Open all your doors before anyone arrives, if possible hand sanitise, stay 2 metres away and give all of your surfaces a wipe-down after everyone has left.

Natural Light

With darker evenings and less sunshine, we all know that our homes can feel a little more dark than usual. If you have a viewing coming up, you need to ensure your home is as light as possible. Making sure that all your curtains are open and windows are clean will ensure that as much natural light comes through as possible.

If the viewing is taking place in the evening, then lots of lights being switched on is a good thing. If you have lamps to place in dark corners, this can be beneficial too.

Making Your Home Feel Warm

Lots of us are careful with our heating bills now, but if someone is coming to view you want them to immediately feel as though your home is comforting and homely. Put the heating on before they arrive, so that they get that feel good factor as soon as they step into your home from the cold.
A window or two open a little before they arrive to get some fresh air in is still a good thing before the viewing. Just close these before they arrive and get the house nice and toasty for them.

Dressing Your Home

A viewing any time of the year calls for a de-clutter and a tidy before anyone arrives. Wiping down of the sides and ensuring sinks and toilets are sparkly clean is always recommended.
We already know you want your home to feel warm and cosy, so don’t be afraid to dress it up with some neatly placed blankets. This shows people that it is a home you feel comfortable in and they’ll be able to envisage themselves cozied up on the sofa, in front of the TV with a blanket.

If you have Christmas decorations up during your viewings, just ensure these are all tidy and don’t make the place feel cluttered. That said, decorations like this are a great way to brighten a room and can make a good talking point so don’t feel you have to avoid them altogether.
Don’t worry too much about viewings, as we’re always on hand to take the reins and show people around, however there is no harm in you knowing how to be prepared before we arrive.
