Working From Home: Showing Off Your Office Space in All The Right Ways

There is no denying that the events of 2020 have helped to shape what people see as important when looking for new homes. With a majority of us spending more time than ever at home, what we want our home to offer us has certainly changed – and those looking to move house will be no exception.

We know that gardens and outdoor space are super important to potential buyers. No surprise really when lots of us have been unable to get holidays and days out to the usual places we go to. We also know that space where you are able to work from home in is important to many people. In fact, as a seller, you may well have a space you work from home in already.

Showcasing Your Work From Home Area

If you already work from home, then the chances are the space you have designated has changed since March. Many people started their work from home period thinking it would just be for a few weeks and so spent their time perched on kitchen tables or working with their laptops on their lap. By April and May people realised that actually working from home was a much longer-term prospect and we saw a massive change in the space people had – with desks being in place and people creating a real office environment.

This is great because it shows viewers what they would be able to do with the space also. That said, much like the rest of your home it really does need to be shown off to its full potential during any viewings. Clutter-free is definitely the way to go – so even if you usually work best in a flurry of paper and post-it notes, make sure these are filed away during your viewing.
Also, it is worth bearing in mind that some of the work you’re doing is likely to be confidential and therefore you should ensure everything is as secure as possible.

What If They Don’t Work From Home?

Not everyone is working from home, so you may well get viewers who aren’t interested in any workspace and that is okay. A clean and tidy desk will give them an idea of what they can do with the space there as an alternative to office space if they wish. It lets them know that the room has lots of potential and that is always a great sign when it comes to people being able to picture a home as their own.

Showing off your work from home space is much the same as the rest of your home – clutter-free, as clean and tidy as possible and ensuring it looks its best. Tuck in the chair under the desk, make sure
your laptop lid is closed and ensure all coffee mugs are removed is a great place to start.
